Japanese Knotweed Eradication Service

Our work reflects decades of field experience, environmental knowledge, and exceptional customer care, all supported by our written one-year Japanese knotweed eradication guarantee.

Our Professional Japanese Knotweed Eradication Services

Japanese knotweed is widely regarded as one of, if not the most aggressive and structurally damaging invasive plants in New England. Its underground rhizome system can extend more than twenty feet from visible growth, allowing it to spread rapidly across property lines and compromise foundations, retaining walls, driveways, and natural landscapes. If dug up, any fragment of rhizome will regrow into a destructive infestation.

Effective control requires more than cutting, smothering or surface treatment. It demands a disciplined, multi-year, rhizome-level strategy.

Our professional three-year Japanese knotweed treatment plans are designed to:

• Target and eliminate the underground rhizome network
• Reduce reinfestation risk
• Protect structural elements and surrounding landscapes
• Preserve long-term property value

All applications are performed by licensed professionals and conducted in full compliance with state and federal regulations.

Each treatment plan is tailored to the specific property and includes a clearly outlined three year strategy. In addition, our program is backed by a one year written guarantee, providing clients with peace of mind and accountability. For properties with boundary exposure, we also offer ongoing monitoring and rescan services to prevent re-encroachment from adjacent land.

After more than two decades serving Massachusetts communities, we understand both the biological behavior of Japanese knotweed and the regulatory framework governing its control. Our approach is systematic, environmentally responsible, and results-driven.

Property owners seeking a professional evaluation and a structured eradication plan are encouraged to contact us to schedule a site assessment.

Japanese knotweed recently formed the basis of a landmark Massachusetts legal case

In 2025, in Trites v. Cricones, a jury and judge upheld a finding under Massachusetts consumer protection law (Chapter 93A) in favor of homebuyers whose property, in Pepperell, was contaminated with Japanese knotweed, awarding six-figure damages and payment of attorney’s fees after the infestation was discovered post-closing due to the seller’s failure to disclose it.

Japanese knotweed is a highly aggressive and destructive invasive plant which can damage foundations, overtake landscapes, and significnatly reduce property values if allowed to dominate.

We can help you restore your landscape and protect your property.

Why Root-Level Treatment Matters

Many invasive species spread through underground rhizomes or root systems. Cutting, smothering or mowing alone rarely eliminates the problem and requires labor intensive strategies. Mechanical removal (digging up the plant or pulling it by hand) typically leaves behind root fragments that can regrow into large infestations.

Effective management requires treatment that reaches and destroys the plant’s rhizome structures.

Proper identification, timing, and application method are critical to achieving long-term control while minimizing environmental impact.

What is Japanese Knotweed?

Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica) is a fast growing perennial invasive species introduced from Asia in the 1800s. It spreads aggressively through underground rhizomes that can extend 20+ feet horizontally and 7-10 feet deep or deeper in certain conditions.

Identifying Characteristics:

  • Bamboo-like hollow stems
  • Broad, shield-shaped leaves
  • Cream-colored flower clusters (late summer)
  •  Dense thickets which, once mature, crowds out native plants allowing very little to grow beneath it

The true threat lies below ground. Even a small root fragment can regenerate into a new plant capable of covering large areas.
